ALGIERS- In his address at the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Kampala, Uganda, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune urged member states to coordinate efforts under the NAM umbrella. He emphasized the need for a united bloc to address current global challenges and achieve shared goals. President Tebboune stated that building an international system based on inclusivity, not exclusion, transparent responsibilities, and justice requires enhancing unity and strategic positioning within the movement.
Highlighting Africa’s interconnected security and development, President Tebboune emphasized Algeria’s steadfast belief in the correlation between security and development. He pointed to the increasing intensity and scope of political and security crises, the proliferation of terrorism and organized crime, escalating tension hotspots, and unconstitutional changes of governments, especially in the Sahel-Saharan region.
President Tebboune, represented by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, stressed the importance of collective action to attain shared objectives and rectify the historical injustice faced by Africa in the composition of the UN Security Council. He called for unwavering efforts to actualize the African continental integration project, transforming Africa into an international player in alignment with the “Agenda 2063” of the African Union. President Tebboune commended the Non-Aligned Movement for its support of these ambitious endeavors.
Addressing Algeria’s collaboration with international partners, President Tebboune acknowledged the intensive cooperation to mitigate the repercussions of the global energy crisis. Algeria, aiming to host the seventh summit of gas-exporting countries in March, seeks to strengthen its role as a reliable and credible gas supplier. The summit aims to facilitate dialogue and consultation among member states, gas exporters, and importers to support and develop the natural gas industry, affirming the full and permanent sovereign rights of member states in planning, developing, and utilizing their natural gas resources.
