ALGIERS– The Sonelgaz Group, a leading name in Algeria’s energy sector, took a significant step forward in its pursuit of sustainable energy solutions this Monday. Following the successful opening of technical offer envelopes last July, the eagerly awaited event saw the opening of financial offer envelopes for the 2000 MW Renewable Energy (EnR) project. The project aims to construct 15 photovoltaic solar power plants spanning 12 wilayas, offering a unit power output ranging from 80 to 220 MW, while also integrating them into the national electrical transport network.

The opening ceremony was held at the CIC venue in Algiers, and it was attended by representatives of the participating companies, marking a momentous occasion in Algeria’s renewable energy journey.

In the initial phase, the technical offer envelopes garnered remarkable attention, with a total of 77 offers submitted by various entities. Impressively, 73 of these offers were approved, underscoring the project’s widespread appeal and the enthusiasm of stakeholders to contribute to a sustainable energy future.

The 2000 MW Renewable Energy project aligns with Algeria’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity. The endeavor involves constructing a network of state-of-the-art photovoltaic solar power plants, each designed with the latest technology and sustainability practices. These power plants will be strategically dispersed across 12 wilayas, ensuring a broad geographical reach and optimal utilization of renewable energy resources.

One distinctive feature of Sonelgaz’ specifications for this ambitious venture is the emphasis on national integration. The company has set a high bar, requiring participating companies to achieve a minimum national integration rate of 35%. This move encourages the acquisition of crucial project materials, such as solar panel structures, cables, and processors, from Algerian suppliers. By doing so, the project aims to stimulate economic growth within the country while bolstering domestic industries and job creation.

Furthermore, the project demonstrates Sonelgaz’s commitment to nurturing local talent and expertise. Algerian companies will be entrusted with the civil engineering and electromechanical installation works, ensuring the development of critical skills and expertise within the nation.

The 2000 MW Renewable Energy project signifies a significant leap forward for Algeria, not only in terms of clean energy production but also in strengthening the country’s industrial and economic landscape. By fostering collaboration between local and international players and emphasizing sustainability, Sonelgaz is paving the way for a brighter, cleaner, and more prosperous future for Algeria.
