ALGIERS- According to a report from National Radio, the wilaya of In Salah is expected to produce 4,000 quintals (qx) of cereals by the end of the 2022-2023 harvest-threshing campaign. This production will be a combination of all cereal varieties and will be carried out on a 200-hectare area with 32 pivots.
Abdelaziz Zenguila, the head of the production and technical support organization service (SOPAT) at the local management agricultural services (DSA), stated that the wilaya plans to extend the area dedicated to cereal growing to 900 hectares by promoting investment in this strategic sector.
Compared to last year’s harvest of over 1,100 qx from 90 hectares, there has been an increase in the areas devoted to the cultivation of cereals under pivots for the current agricultural season. The necessary logistical means have been mobilized for the harvest-threshing campaign, which was kicked off by local authorities at a private farm in the daïra of In-Ghar, occupying a total area of 50 hectares, with 30 hectares reserved for the cultivation of durum wheat.
The report highlights the importance of the agricultural sector in In Salah and the potential for growth and investment in this area. With the extension of the area dedicated to cereal growing, there is an opportunity for increased production and economic development in the region.
