Algiers, Algeria | June 1st, 2024 — Naâma province hosted a national conference themed “Investment Prospects in Strategic Crops and Local Sheep Breeds” this Saturday, jointly organized by the Ministries of Agriculture and Interior. Aligned with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision for bolstering strategic agriculture, the event underscored the region’s potential to enhance food security.
Distinguished Attendees
The conference drew the presence of five government ministers, including those responsible for Interior, Agriculture, Industry, Hydraulics, and Environment. Notable figures, such as Governors from neighboring provinces, public officials, business leaders, and investors also participated. Their collective aim was to leverage the agricultural richness of Naâma for sustainable development.
The attendance of key personalities like Omar Relâche, Director-General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Council for Economic Renewal (CREA), and Abdellatif Dilmi, Secretary-General of UNPA, underscored the gravity of the occasion and the shared commitment to agricultural advancement.
Unveiling Agricultural Potential
Blessed with 2 million hectares of cultivable land, ample groundwater reservoirs, and modern infrastructure, Naâma aspires to emerge as a nucleus for strategic cereal cultivation and the preservation of the indigenous Daghma sheep breed. Positioned as a nexus between the northern regions and the expansive Grand South, the province boasts 80,000 hectares already dedicated to cultivation and promising industrial zones.
Governor Louanes Bouzegza, in his opening remarks, underscored Naâma’s potential as an agricultural and livestock powerhouse. Despite vast arable land, a mere 2% is currently utilized. However, with 80,000 hectares earmarked for strategic crops and sheep farming, the region is primed for transformative growth.
Investment Avenues
Governor Bouzegza outlined 500 available land parcels and five industrial zones tailored for potential investors, particularly in agro-food processing. Emphasizing the restoration and propagation of the unique Daghma sheep breed, he highlighted the establishment of four expansive agricultural perimeters, each surpassing 20,000 hectares. These initiatives underscore Naâma’s steadfast commitment to agricultural development and investment attraction.
As Naâma embarks on its journey to lead in strategic agriculture, stakeholders and investors stand ready to harness the region’s vast potential, contributing to Algeria’s agricultural prosperity and food security objectives.
