7th GECF Summit in Algiers: Energy Ministers Meeting Underway

ALGIERS- The extraordinary ministerial meeting preparatory to the seventh summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) kicked off today at the Abdellatif Rahal Conference Center in Algiers. The meeting focuses on reviewing the final version of the “Algiers Declaration” and related decisions. The document will be submitted for approval by the heads of state and government tomorrow during a summit presided over by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Also on the agenda for today’s meeting is the ceremony for awarding prizes to experts and organizations contributing to the development of the gas sector through their innovative contributions.

The proceedings will continue into the afternoon with additional meetings and bilateral encounters, including the signing of protocols between the forum and the African Energy Commission (AFREC) of the African Union, as well as the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).

Yesterday, a high-level working group convened to prepare the summit agenda and draft the “Algiers Declaration.” Following this, the inauguration of the Gas Research Institute’s headquarters at the Ministry of Energy and Mines building B in Algiers took place. Additionally, a closed-door meeting was held to prepare the “Global Gas Outlook 2050” report.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum comprises 12 permanent members (Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela) and 7 observer members (Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Peru).
