7th GECF Summit in Algiers: Iraqi President Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid Arrives in Algeria

ALGIERS – The President of the Republic, Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid, arrived, today, Friday, in Algeria to participate in the seventh summit of heads of state and government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

A statement from the Presidency of the Republic, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), confirmed President Rashid’s arrival in Algeria for the important summit. The summit aims to address critical issues related to gas exporting countries and to enhance cooperation among member states.

“President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, left today, Friday, March 1, 2024, the capital, Baghdad, heading to Algeria,” The Iraqi Presidency’s Media Department stated.

“The president visit comes in response to an official invitation from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to participate in 7th summit of heads of state and government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF),” The statement added.

“The President is accompanied by a government delegation that includes Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul Ghani, Member of Parliament and Member of the Parliamentary Energy Committee Adnan Ashour Adnan, Chairman of the Board of Advisors and Experts in the Presidency of the Republic Ali Al-Shukri, and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Hussein Bahr Al-Ulum and the head of KRG representative , Fares Issa, in addition to a number of officials and advisors, “It explained.

President Rashid’s presence underscores Iraq’s commitment to collaboration within the GECF and its dedication to addressing challenges and opportunities in the global gas market. The summit provides a platform for discussing strategies to strengthen the gas sector, promote sustainable development, and foster economic growth among member countries.

During his visit, President Rashid is expected to engage in bilateral discussions with other participating leaders, exchanging views on regional and international developments and exploring avenues for enhancing cooperation in the energy sector.

The GECF summit serves as a crucial forum for dialogue and collaboration among gas-producing nations, reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing mutual interests and promoting stability and prosperity in the energy market.
