ALGIERS-The extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) commenced earlier today at the International Conference Center in western Algiers. Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of Energy and Mines, conveyed the Algerian government’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the success of this summit, aligning closely with the directives issued by the President of the Republic.

Arkab emphasized, “Algeria has diligently worked to ensure the success of this summit, enabling leaders of member countries to discuss vital issues related to the development and support of natural gas roles in achieving prosperity for our nations and contributing to global energy security.”

Speaking against the backdrop of notable geopolitical shifts and structural transformations in energy markets, particularly within the gas sector, Arkab underscored the imperative to examine and tackle pivotal issues. These encompass the gradual shift towards a global economy dependent on clean energy sources, crucial for combating climate change, a phenomenon that poses both challenges and opportunities.

The establishment of the GECF Research Institute’s headquarters, unveiled yesterday, marks a significant milestone and will serve as a crucial instrument in fostering scientific collaboration in research and technological innovation to advance the natural gas industry. This initiative includes giving precedence to collaborative projects geared towards constructing adaptable and sustainable energy systems.

Arkab concluded by underlining the anticipated richness and productivity of the ministerial meeting, foreseeing it as a catalyst for cooperation and mutual consultation aimed at fostering progress and prosperity across all member nations. The discussions and topics addressed during the meeting are poised to deepen collaboration and drive advancements in the gas sector within the forum, further solidifying its role in shaping the global energy landscape.
