7th GECF Summit in Algiers: Minister Arkab Meets OPEC Secretary General

Algiers, March 1, 2024 – In the midst of the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Mr. Haitham Al-Ghais, on Friday.

The discussions between Minister Arkab and Secretary General Al-Ghais centered on the current dynamics of the oil market and its short- and medium-term development prospects. Both parties delved into the major challenges confronting the global oil industry and explored avenues to strengthen consultations in addressing these challenges effectively.

Additionally, priority issues concerning member states within the framework of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum were also brought to the table during this meeting. The dialogue aimed to foster greater cooperation and coordination among member countries to address common challenges and promote stability and sustainability in the global energy market.

The meeting underscored the significance of multilateral engagement and collaboration among energy-producing nations to navigate the evolving landscape of the energy sector and ensure mutual prosperity and security. Minister Arkab and Secretary General Al-Ghais reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing dialogue and cooperation in pursuit of shared objectives and interests within the energy sphere.
