7th GECF Summit in Algiers: Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to Actualize Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline Project

ALGIERS- During the extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Algiers, Nigerian Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, reiterated his country’s commitment and determination to realize the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline project connecting Nigeria, Niger, and Algeria.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy, Minister Ekpo, who was received by Mohamed Arkab on the sidelines of the GECF meeting, “reiterated Nigeria’s commitment and determination to materialize this vital and strategic project, which will enhance gas supplies in the global market.”
During the meeting, the statement adds, both parties reviewed the bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries in the energy sector, as well as investment opportunities and the exchange of expertise, particularly in hydrocarbon exploration and production, petrochemicals, as well as natural gas transportation and marketing.
In the presence of the CEO of Sonatrach and officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the two parties also commended, the statement specifies, the level of dialogue and consultation between the two countries, notably within the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the GECF, with the aim of contributing to the stability of oil and gas markets in the best interests of both producers and consumers.
