Yesterday, Thursday, the representative of the Polisario Front in Canaria (south of the Spanish island of Tenerife), Hamdi Mansour, highlighted the “miserable” human rights situation in the occupied territories, and the military and media blockade imposed on them, citing the suffering of the struggler and member of the Sahrawi Commission against Moroccan occupation, Sultana Sayed Ibrahim Khaia.
This came when Hamdi Mansour was received by the Mayor of Arona Municipality, south of Tenerife, Jose Julián Mina, accompanied by his advisor in charge of cooperation and development in the municipality. The meeting was also attended, along with the representative of the Polisario, a member of the Canarian Association of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People in Tenerife, Juan Antonio.
During the meeting, the Sahrawi diplomat reviewed the current situation in the Sahrawi cause at the political and military level, especially after the Moroccan flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement on November 13, 2020, and the resumption of the armed struggle, according to the Saharawi News Agency (SPA).
He explained in this context that the Sahrawi People’s Army is fighting daily battles against the positions and bases of the Moroccan occupation army along the berm.
The same diplomat also highlighted the “miserable” situation of human rights in the occupied territories, and the military and media blockade imposed on them, and referred in this context to the suffering of the struggler Sultana Sayed Ibrahim Khaya, who lives “inhumane conditions as a result of repression, torture, siege and rape, and the raiding of her family’s house and Various types of degrading treatment of human dignity,” the same source adds.
The meeting also dealt with the visit of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Staffan de Mistura, to the region, in an attempt to find a just solution to the Sahrawi issue in light of the intransigence of the Moroccan regime, its violation of the ceasefire agreement and the violation of international law.
On Saturday, de Mistura will arrive in the Sahrawi refugee camps, in his second stop after Rabat, during his first tour to the region since his appointment last November.
For his part, the Mayor of Arona expressed his “full solidarity with the Saharawi cause, and his understanding of everything that was stated by the representative of the Popular Front,” stressing that his municipality is “open” to the representation of the Front and to the Canarian Association for solidarity with the Saharawi people in any activity or initiative to be organized for the benefit of the Saharawi cause. .
At the end of his intervention, the mayor of the municipality stressed that his municipality will “try, as much as possible, to raise the level of cooperation to find advanced ways to support humanitarian aid, as well as to develop projects directed at the Sahrawi refugee camps.”
