Algeria, October 8, 2023 – a significant move towards bolstering Algeria’s academic and research prowess, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, announced plans to employ 196 research professors over the next two months. This development comes on the heels of an impressive wave of academic recruitment in 2023, which saw the hiring of 8,000 research professors with magister and doctoral degrees in Category B, and an additional 2,500 professors from the prestigious professorship class in the first half of the year.

Speaking at a media symposium focused on evaluating employment processes across various sectors, organized by the Ministry of Communication, Minister Kamel Baddari outlined the government’s commitment to fostering a vibrant academic environment. He emphasized that these new recruits would play a pivotal role in enhancing the nation’s scientific research capabilities.

One of the key highlights of the announcement is the imminent release of a legal framework that will facilitate the employment of post-doctoral researchers. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, facilitating the transfer of knowledge and innovation from universities to the broader economic and social environment. The move aligns perfectly with the vision set forth by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who has prioritized the strengthening of Algeria’s research and innovation landscape.

Minister Baddari further underscored his dedication to the long-term development of the education and research sectors, assuring stakeholders that the recruitment process will continue in the years to come. Additionally, he revealed plans to issue a comprehensive legal framework governing the recruitment of PhD holders, further streamlining and enhancing the academic talent acquisition process.

These initiatives signify a substantial commitment by Algeria’s government to invest in education, research, and innovation. By providing opportunities for highly qualified professionals and fostering a collaborative environment between academia and industry, the nation is poised to make significant strides in the realms of research, development, and innovation, ultimately driving economic growth and societal progress.
