The Audiovisual Regulatory Authority (ARAV) has summoned the director of Ennahar TV channel following the broadcast of scenes attacking the sacredness of the month of Ramadan and the moral values of Algerian society, announced on Monday ARAV in a statement.
The ARAV specified that it had “monitored episodes of the series “Houb El Moulouk” broadcast on Ennahar TV channel during the evenings of Ramadhan”, where it had observed “scenes whose content is detrimental to the sacredness of the month of Ramadhan and to the religious and moral values of Algerian society”.
“After examining the question, the ARAV has summoned the director of the said channel to present explanations on these obscene sequences which had aroused the indignation of all sections of society”, it has been underlined, adding that the director of the channel has acknowledged “the fault committed despite the channel’s efforts to provide programs compatible with the foundations of society, particularly during the month of Ramadan”.
The ARAV has recalled having previously warned these channels, particularly during the month of Ramadhan, of “the imperative to observe moral values and good customs and to check their various programs beforehand”.
It has been decided for this purpose to “suspend the broadcast of episodes of the series “Houb El Moulouk” for a period of one week from this Monday until next Friday, the channel being invited to apologize to the public opinion and to check its various programs beforehand, particularly during the month of Ramadan”.
The ARAV, however, warned against coercive measures in the event of a repeat offence.
