ALGIERS- The Moroccan Socialist Union of Popular Forces party has called for the establishment of an opposition front to protect institutional balance and preserve democratic choices in Morocco.
Driss Lachkar, the first secretary of the party, emphasized the need to work with the left committed to defending democracy, rights, freedoms, and updating society with necessary rationality, distancing from futile matters.
During the presentation of his annual report at the party’s national council session on Saturday, Lachkar expressed his rejection of majority dominance, indicating that the components forming the alliance of the government at the central level and in regions, provinces, prefectures, and municipalities seek to establish “a logic of dominance and control,” despite the lack of consistency among these components and their conflicting interests in many cases.
He argued that the “distorted situation at the regional and local levels” has led to contradictions and conflicts that hinder the normal functioning of elected institutions, often resulting in obstacles to the development process and hindrance to public service performance for the benefit of citizens.
Lachkar added, “The government resorted to urgent judicial measures for the first time to remove a municipal councilor from his duties, while in the same city, there is someone responsible for chairing a municipality and being involved in the same case but did not face the same measures.”
He pointed out that institutional imbalance in the regime has clearly reflected in the slowness and obstacles experienced by government performance in activating major workshops in Morocco, both economically and socially.
