Algeria Embarks on Radio-Isotope Production in Nuclear Industry Endeavor

ALGIERS- Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, hosted Yu Jianfeng, head of the specialized Algerian-Chinese working group for cooperation in the nuclear industry, at the ministry’s headquarters on Monday.

According to a statement from the ministry, discussions centered on the status of cooperation between the Algerian Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA) and the Chinese National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), active in the nuclear energy sector. Both parties reviewed active and passive uses of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and explored development prospects.

They also addressed issues related to enhancing cooperation, including ongoing discussions within the specialized Algerian-Chinese working group for cooperation in the nuclear industry. Additionally, they delved into matters concerning the production of radio-isotopes in Algeria, utilized in industry, agriculture, and medical fields for diagnosing pathologies and treating cancer.

Yu Jianfeng emphasized Algeria’s capacity and willingness to implement the radio-isotope production project.

In this context, Minister Arkab expressed satisfaction with the state of cooperation between the Algerian Atomic Energy Commission and the CNNC, particularly the progress made in the isotope production dossier.
