ALGIERS- Since Hamza Benhamouda took the helm of Air Algérie in February, significant changes have taken place within the airline’s leadership. The new CEO has recently undertaken a major overhaul within the company’s management. These changes affect crucial departments within Air Algérie’s hierarchy, including the general secretariat, communication, operations, commercial direction, and revenue management.
Several Key Changes at Air Algérie
Benhamouda decided to end the tenure of Sofiane Aït Abdelmalek as the general secretary of Air Algérie. He appointed Bouzghaia Abdelaziz as his replacement, according to a company statement. Additionally, Amine Andaloussi, who served as the director and spokesperson for Air Algérie’s communication department for five years, will now temporarily lead the brand management direction (DBM), as stated in the announcement. Furthermore, Mrs. Bedjaoui-Chaouche Souad has been relieved of her position as director of customer relations and now heads the commercial division, replacing Amiar Yacine, who served as interim director. Chkembou Djamel, an Airbus A330-200 captain, has been appointed as the head of the operations division, replacing Mohamed Ali Allali, another captain, who has stepped down from his position. Additionally, Réda Benmiloud, director of the operations control center, has been relieved of his duties and replaced by Dahache Mohamed, who previously served as the deputy director in the programming department. Kouah Hassina has been appointed as the deputy director within the operations division, a department where she previously held a senior position. Boutemadja Samy Karim has stepped down from his role as deputy director within the operations control center to assume the position of revenue management director, replacing Fouad Faidi, who has been relieved of his duties.
Benhamouda Continues to Implement Changes at Air Algérie
Benhamouda’s tenure as CEO of Air Algérie has been characterized by significant changes within the company’s management structure since he assumed office last month. Since his appointment, the new CEO has already made changes to the maintenance and aircraft repair department, as well as the human resources department.
Air Algérie Continues Its Transformation
Less than a month after being appointed as the head of Air Algérie, Benhamouda has made substantial changes to all strategic structures within the company. The new CEO is assembling a new team to successfully accomplish the mission entrusted to him. Benhamouda has taken charge of an airline that is undergoing several restructuring initiatives and has ambitious plans to expand its destination network.
The discontinuation of several recently opened or relaunched routes for commercial profitability reasons does not signify a setback in the airline’s network expansion projects. Air Algérie is preparing to strengthen its fleet with the arrival of fifteen new state-of-the-art aircraft, officially acquired from Airbus for wide-body models and from Boeing for narrow-body models. With a reinforced and renewed fleet, along with international redeployment, particularly in Africa where new routes have been opened and relaunched recently, Air Algérie is positioned as a company with strong development potential in the future. Air Algérie aims to regain its position as a key player in Africa and also expand into new territories in Asia, with the announcement of Kuala Lumpur among other destinations in this continent, as well as in Europe, such as Amsterdam.
The Algiers-New York route has also made significant progress. The current CEO of Air Algérie himself discussed the project with the U.S. Ambassador to Algeria when he was the director of the National Civil Aviation Agency. Long described as a giant with feet of clay, especially during the years of numerous difficulties, Air Algérie, with the financial results achieved last year, aims to move steadily towards its long-awaited takeoff.
