ALGIERS- The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau to Algeria, Mamadou Allu Jalo, as reported by a statement from the APN. At the outset of the meeting, Mr. Boughali praised “the deep-rooted relations between the two countries, especially as Algeria contributed to the liberation of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, as well as the efforts leading to the signing of the ceasefire agreement and the country’s independence in 1974.”

Speaker Boughali noted that “the upcoming visit to Algeria by the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, will further enhance bilateral relations, with the signing of several cooperation agreements across various sectors.”

He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing consultations between the two countries, particularly regarding peace and security issues in Africa, counterterrorism efforts, and combatting organized crime and violence. President Boughali also commended “Guinea-Bissau’s support for Algeria’s candidacy in international institutions, including the African Union Peace and Security Council, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the Universal Postal Union.”

During the discussions, both sides emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting mutual understanding between the two nations. In this context, President Boughali announced plans for the installation of a parliamentary friendship group between Algeria and Guinea-Bissau, aimed at fostering closer cooperation and exchanges between the legislative bodies of both countries.

The establishment of the parliamentary friendship group reflects the commitment of Algeria and Guinea-Bissau to deepen their partnership and explore new avenues for collaboration in areas of common interest. It is expected to serve as a platform for regular dialogue, information sharing, and joint initiatives to address shared challenges and promote shared values.
