The promotion of partnership and inter-African cooperation in insurance and reinsurance will be the main theme of the 49th General Assembly of the African Insurance Organization (AIO), which will be hosted by Algiers next May.
Some 2,000 participants, between officials, experts and speakers, will take part in this general assembly of the OAA, which will be held from May 27 to 30, 2023 in Algiers, we learned from the National Agricultural Mutual Fund (CNMA ), whose general manager chairs the Organizing Committee for this international event.
This “important event” will bring together eminent speakers and international experts who will deal with important topics relating in particular to the “development of a healthy insurance industry in Africa in order to facilitate and promote inter-African cooperation in the field of insurance and reinsurance”, according to the same source.
The participants in this meeting will focus on the development of a roadmap that serves the interests of the members of the organization and on the ways and means to defend the common positions of its members.
Partner with other organizations including United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), International Labor Organization (ILO) and Access to Insurance Initiative in various capacity building programs , is also on the agenda of the next GA of this organization, which aims to be “the voice of the sector’s requests to political decision-makers, governments and other stakeholders, in order to present to them the many benefits of insurance in Africa”.
Algeria’s candidacy to host this event was introduced during the last general assembly of the AIO, held in Nairobi, Kenya, by the director general of the CNMA, Chérif Benhabilès, who was elected vice-president on this occasion. president of this organization, whose status has become an international organization and not a regional one.
This candidacy, which is part of Algeria’s ambition to carve out a place of choice in its African space, was unanimously adopted by the members during the work of this general assembly.
During this GA, the participants also advocated the promotion of insurance in the African continent, while underlining the importance of this sector as a lever for economic and social development in the continent.
They also pleaded for greater involvement of public authorities in supporting the insurance sector.
The 48th AIO conference was held under the theme “Insurance and Climate Change: Harnessing Growth Opportunities in Africa”.
