Air Algerie Implements Arabic Language Policy in Correspondence to Align with National Constitution

ALGIERS- Air Algérie has initiated new measures to strengthen the adoption of the Arabic language in its correspondence and dealings with various departments, embassies, and official entities. This move aligns with Article 3 of the Algerian Constitution, which designates Arabic as the national and official language.

Under the leadership of the new CEO, Hamza Benhamouda, the company aims to train its workers and employees in English, the internationally recognized language of civil aviation. However, the primary focus remains on promoting Arabic language usage in official communications, in adherence to constitutional requirements.

In recent weeks, Air Algérie has begun formalizing the use of Arabic in all internal correspondence and interactions. This includes letters from the CEO, such as messages commemorating significant events like the Tamanrasset plane crash anniversary and International Women’s Day. The decision reflects the company’s commitment to respecting Algeria’s official language policy and cultural heritage.

Moreover, Air Algérie’s commitment to Arabic extends to its communications with foreign embassies. In these exchanges, the company ensures that original copies are provided in Arabic alongside translations into the respective languages of the recipient countries.

The new language policy underscores Air Algérie’s status as a national carrier and its obligation to uphold the country’s official language regulations. By emphasizing Arabic in official communications, the airline aims to enhance customer service for local clients, improve communication effectiveness, and facilitate better understanding.

In addition to legal compliance, the adoption of Arabic correspondence contributes to Air Algérie’s efforts to strengthen its national identity and demonstrate allegiance to the nation. The management believes that this initiative is essential for building customer trust and maintaining the airline’s long-term success. Overall, this language policy aligns with the Algerian Constitution, which mandates Arabic as an official language.
