In an interview with the magazine “El Djeich”, Ibtissam Hamlaoui reveals the human and social dimension of the Algerian Red Crescent, both internally and externally

The President of the Algerian Red Crescent, Ibtissam Hamlaoui, gave an interview to the magazine “El Djeich”, in which she spoke about the tasks and efforts of the national charity organization, and the most important future challenges facing it. await, as well as those involved in this noble endeavour.

Hamlaoui explained that the Algerian Red Crescent is the first humanitarian organization created in Algeria during the Revolution, in 1956, officially recognized at Independence.

The speaker revealed that the ARC seeks to be worthy of the confidence granted to it by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, noting at the same time that, in accordance with President Tebboune’s policy, the Red Crescent attaches the greatest importance shadow regions and border wilayas, as well as recently created wilayas.

“In this context, we distributed nearly 500 tonnes of aid in the second half of 2022, through the various wilayas of the country, such as In Guezzam, Tindouf, Djelfa, Timimoun, El Tarf, Batna, Tébessa and other regions where this aid is distributed in direct coordination with the local authorities,” added the president of the CRA.

Speaking of the People’s National Army, a descendant of the National Liberation Army, the first leader of the Algerian Red Crescent underlined that it is an army which carries the same convictions, values and supreme humanitarian principles which previously liberated the country and presented to the world the most beautiful images of sacrifice and abnegation for the victory of freedom and human dignity.

The People’s National Army is always present with its personnel, officers, equipment and materials when it comes to humanitarian and charitable actions, whether inside the country, to bring relief and relieve suffering. citizens in different crises and natural disasters that our country has experienced, the latest of which was the Covid pandemic, during which the ANP mobilized great capacities to support the national health system.

And its effective contribution also by mobilizing its air fleet to transport the humanitarian aid provided by the Algerian State to friendly and brotherly countries through the Algerian Red Crescent, and it is important to point out that with the lack of volunteers in the southern regions, the People’s National Army does 80 percent of the volunteer work in aid distribution, Hamlaoui added.

In this regard, the President of the ARC declared: “We consider a true partner, an effective partner to embody our humanitarian missions on the ground. »

In another context, Hamlaoui explained that the Algerian Red Crescent is the largest international humanitarian organization for volunteering and solidarity in North Africa, which is why it tends to adopt a new strategy so as not to restrict itself to its vocation. tradition and the ways of charitable work, such as the occasional distribution of donations.

“The Red Crescent exists in the form of wilaya committees throughout the national territory, through the 800 local committees. His noble tasks are tangible in many areas of assistance and solidarity, such as helping the needy, school outfits, “meida of Ramadhan”, visiting the sick in hospitals, circumcision of children and campsites. summer for the children of the South, in addition to the psychological or social rehabilitation of victims of all forms of violence, the promotion and dissemination of international humanitarian law, as well as other tasks such as emergency relief during disasters (earthquakes of earth, collapses of buildings, floods, etc.), adds the speaker.

Hamlaoui said that the Algerian Red Crescent stands alongside the medical emergency services to support them with its human and material capacities, and provides psychological support for the victims, in addition to rehabilitating, developing and forming the intervention teams. emergency.

On the social level, Hamlaoui revealed that the Algerian Red Crescent is working through the strategy that we have adopted on the ground, to carry out various operations within the framework of multifaceted social assistance, including the care of the homeless. shelter, organization and dispatch of solidarity caravans, particularly to the southern regions and gray areas. It also takes care of needy families during religious holidays, such as Ramadhan and Eid (distribution of clothes for orphans, opening of catering outlets to break the fast, especially on the roads and in the South.

It should be noted that the Algerian Red Crescent also distributed, during the last school year, 20,000 school kits, in addition to food parcels for the benefit of needy families.

As part of the noble work of the Red Crescent, Hamlaoui said: “I offer you an exclusive of which the ARC is very proud: the “SOS children” village of Draria was recently placed under the guardianship of the Algerian Red Crescent. In addition, we are building the first center for autism in Batna.

“We have also launched solidarity convoys as part of the “Mild winter” campaign, through which we have provided various aid to families and the needy in many states of the country, especially in gray areas.” , added the president of the CRA.

The Algerian Red Crescent has also concluded an international agreement for the preservation of the environment, in Geneva, on the basis of which the national headquarters of the Algerian Red Crescent will become a “green headquarters”, respectful and respectful of the environment, has revealed Ibtissam Hamlawi.

In this regard, Hamalawi went on to say, “Therefore, we have entered into an agreement with the National Waste Agency for recovery and recycling. We intend to generalize the operation in all the wilayas of the country for the collection of plastic, paper and glass for recycling. We are also drilling wells in the South using photovoltaic energy and intend to generalize the operation in all regions of the South.”

As for the outside, Hamlaoui indicated that Algeria hosts on its territory about 180,000 Sahrawi refugees, fleeing their occupied lands, in addition to the 800 refugees sponsored by the United Nations Agency for Refugees, which has a branch in Algeria, without forgetting illegal urban migrants. The CRA, through its role as an auxiliary to the public authorities, deploys enormous resources to assist and support the various communities of refugees, migrants and exiles of more than 20 nationalities.

In this context, Hamalaoui revealed the Algerian Red Crescent has 40 accommodation and transit centers, where it fully supports these categories in terms of food, clothing, accommodation and medical examinations, and this, even during the repatriation process.

As for humanitarian aid, the Algerian Red Crescent, faithful to its values and principles, supports and helps the populations by periodically sending humanitarian aid for the benefit of brotherly and friendly countries, like Palestine, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Mauritania, Western Sahara and Cuba, by mobilizing military planes loaded with medicines, clothing and bedding, in addition to basic foodstuffs.
