Algiers, Algeria | September 5th, 2024 — The Agrodiv public agro-industrial group has successfully revived an old grain processing mill in Bouira, which had been out of operation for nearly 20 years. The mill, which has a daily processing capacity of 200 tons of grain into flour, was officially relaunched on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the region’s industrial revitalization efforts.

During a visit to the Bouira Industrial and Commercial Milling Complex, the Governor of Bouira, Abdelkrim Laâmouri, and Agrodiv’s CEO, Brahim Lazreg, inaugurated the reassembly of the mill, which was originally established in 1973 but ceased operations in 2005. Once fully operational, the mill is expected to create over 250 direct jobs and an additional 400 indirect positions, according to the information provided on-site.

In a statement to the press, Agrodiv’s CEO emphasized that this project aligns with the directives from Algeria’s top leadership, including President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Ministry of Industry, to revive idle industrial units across the country. The project is part of a broader initiative to boost local production capacities and reduce reliance on imports.

The company tasked with executing the project has been given a six-month deadline to complete the installation and commissioning of the flour mill, which will produce 200 tons of flour per day. This timeline reflects the government’s commitment to fast-tracking industrial projects that can contribute to economic growth and job creation.

“We are pleased that this project is being relaunched, thanks to the support and assistance provided by the country’s highest authorities. We have successfully acquired the necessary equipment, which is currently being installed, and today marks the start of this long-awaited project,” said Lazreg with optimism.

The reactivation of this unit, scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2025, will be the second such facility in Bouira, following the Ain Bessam mill, located in the western part of the region, which has a daily production capacity of 300 tons.

Agrodiv operates six subsidiaries specializing in grain processing, with a combined production capacity of 51,400 quintals of durum wheat and 60,500 quintals of soft wheat per day. This revival is expected to significantly enhance the group’s production capabilities and contribute to Algeria’s broader goal of achieving greater food security through increased domestic production.
