Algiers to Host CANEX WKND 2024: A Celebration of African Creativity and Culture

Algiers, Algeria | September 13th, 2024 — From October 16 to 19, 2024, Algeria will host the highly anticipated “CANEX WKND 2024” at the Palace of Expositions (SAFEX) in Algiers. This event, organized in collaboration with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), is set to highlight Africa’s creative and cultural industries.

Preceding the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) slated for September 2025 in Algeria, CANEX WKND 2024 will be held under the theme, “A People United by Culture, Creative for the World.” The event aims to promote the diversity of African creative industries, foster talent across the continent, and enhance commercial opportunities between businesses and governments.

On the Algerian side, the event is being spearheaded by several ministries, including the Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion, the Ministry of Culture and Arts, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts. The program will feature a wide array of activities, such as exhibitions, roundtables, and conferences. Attendees can also expect workshops on music and cinema, art exhibitions, fashion shows, and sports events, alongside guided tours to prominent archaeological and tourist sites in Algeria.

A key highlight will be the CANEX Literary Award, which celebrates literary excellence across the African continent. The event will also feature the “CANEX Shorts” Awards, dedicated to short films, further underscoring the importance of storytelling and filmmaking in African culture.

Fashion enthusiasts will have the opportunity to experience the vibrant CANEX Fashion Show, while the commercial exhibitions will offer a platform for businesses, brands, and creative organizations to showcase their innovations. A unique culinary exhibition will complement the festivities, celebrating Africa’s rich gastronomic heritage.
