End of Biological Rest Period Marks New Fishing Season in Algeria

Algiers, Algeria | October 2nd, 2024 —The Ministry of Fisheries and Fishery Productions announced on Tuesday the conclusion of the biological rest period, which ran from June 1 to September 30. During this time, trawlers were prohibited from using pelagic, semi-pelagic, and bottom trawls, as outlined in the ministry’s official communiqué.

In its statement, the ministry expressed its appreciation to the professionals and trawler owners who demonstrated a “high sense of civic responsibility” by refraining from fishing within the 3-mile maritime zone. This measure was crucial in safeguarding the sustainability of marine resources. The ministry also extended its best wishes for a prosperous and successful fishing season, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration in preserving the country’s fishery ecosystems.
