Hyundai’s New Car Plant in Algeria to Cater to Diverse Customer Demands

Algiers, Algeria | October 28th, 2024 — During a recent visit to the Hyundai headquarters in South Korea, the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Brahim Boughali, received assurances from Hyundai officials that the upcoming car plant in Algeria will be attentive to customer demands across a spectrum of preferences once operational. This announcement comes as part of Boughali’s efforts to foster international partnerships and bolster Algeria’s automotive industry.

On October 25, 2024, the Assembly reported that Boughali observed multiple stages of vehicle manufacturing at the Hyundai facility, from the selection of iron ore to various processing phases, including welding for approximately 6,000 components. His visit culminated in insights into painting, assembly, and safety measures, highlighting the advanced manufacturing processes that will be implemented in Algeria.

Boughali also explored key departments, including the Future Cars Division, which features hydrogen and electronic technologies. In a sidebar meeting with Hyundai executives, he praised the continued engagement of Korean companies in Algeria, particularly during the nation’s difficult historical periods. He noted the significant growth of Hyundai’s operations and confirmed plans for the factory to commence production by 2025.

Algeria is positioning itself as a future hub for hydrogen technology, enhancing its credentials on the international stage. Officials have projected that Hyundai’s global network will expand to 15 manufacturing plants, with production capabilities reaching 1.5 million vehicles in Korea and three million vehicles across its international facilities.

Addressing Boughali’s inquiries regarding the quality of vehicles produced in Algeria compared to other markets in the Middle East and Europe, Hyundai representatives clarified that the quality of cars destined for various regions is dictated by production location standards, pricing, and quality considerations. They emphasized that the new plant in Algeria will be responsive to diverse customer requests upon its launch.

Boughali expressed confidence that the Hyundai facility in Algeria will enhance production rates in line with the high demand for the brand, ultimately paving the way for future export opportunities to Africa.
