Algiers, Algeria | November 02nd, 2024 —Air Algérie is set for a dynamic transformation, as announced by the company’s CEO, Hamza Benhamouda, during a seminar focused on civil aviation safety in the capital. The airline has secured an acquisition deal for 15 new aircraft, with the first delivery expected in June 2025. This expansion plan aims to revitalize the airline’s fleet and enhance service quality, providing passengers with a more modern and reliable travel experience.
Benhamouda outlined a methodical approach to the acquisition, with two to three aircraft expected to enter service each year, ensuring a gradual and efficient integration into the operational fleet. This staged delivery process is designed to avoid disruptions and maintain seamless operations as the company expands its offerings. Benhamouda also highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange in the aviation sector, emphasizing the need for collaboration with international aviation experts and organizations.
The seminar saw participation from high-level representatives of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), underscoring Algeria’s commitment to global aviation safety standards. Benhamouda emphasized the importance of fostering internal dialogue within Air Algérie, stating that lessons learned from operational challenges are essential to improving passenger services.
As part of this expansive growth, Air Algérie has signaled its readiness to open new routes in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, while further expanding regional and continental networks. This aligns with Algeria’s national objectives, as articulated by Transport Minister Mohamed Habib Zehana, who noted the government’s ongoing review of private investment applications in the aviation sector. The ministry is currently evaluating three applications from private operators, signaling a supportive environment for private investment in Algerian air transport, similar to recent initiatives in maritime transport.
Minister Zahana also highlighted Algeria’s vision to increase flight frequencies to high-demand, profitable destinations and to support economic operators as they reach new markets across Africa. This strategic direction is expected to enhance Algeria’s connectivity, fostering growth in non-hydrocarbon exports.
Benhamouda remarked, “With a strengthened fleet, Air Algérie will smoothly implement its operational programs and expand its domestic, regional, and continental networks. We are also poised to open new international destinations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, positioning Air Algérie as a leading carrier in the region and beyond.”
