Algiers, Algeria | December 20th, 2024 — In a resounding endorsement of Algeria’s industrial progress, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune commended the nation’s remarkable achievements in producing high-quality goods, a feat that has significantly reduced import dependency and bolstered economic self-reliance. Speaking at the inauguration of the 32nd Algerian Production Fair at the Palace of Expositions des Pins Maritimes on Thursday, President Tebboune emphasized that local market demands remain the government’s production priority, with export ambitions positioned as a subsequent goal.
“This achievement reflects years of strategic effort to empower Algerian industries,” the President declared, addressing an audience that included Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, top government officials, and foreign ambassadors.
Military Industry: A Model of Excellence
During his visit to the fair, President Tebboune highlighted the military industry as an exemplar for other sectors. “The military industry has achieved a level of integration that should serve as a model for the entire national industrial ecosystem,” he asserted, commending the sector’s high integration rates. He added that the industrial achievements of the National Army underscore the potential for other Algerian enterprises to emulate such progress.
Automotive Sector: Strategic Partnerships for a New Era
The President turned his attention to the burgeoning automotive industry, underscoring the strategic partnership with South Africa in manufacturing spare parts. “This collaboration will catalyze growth in the automotive sector, as 70 Algerian companies are already active in producing these essential components,” he noted.
President Tebboune also outlined ambitious goals for the sector, calling for an integration rate of 50% in automobile production and a comprehensive approach to developing the supply chain. While visiting Fiat’s exhibition stand, he reaffirmed Algeria’s aspiration to create a robust automotive industry deeply rooted in local manufacturing and efficient subcontracting.
Economic Renewal Through Streamlined Investment
At the stand of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), President Tebboune underscored the urgent need to operationalize the one-stop investment window by January 2025. “Investors should have a streamlined process, accessing all necessary services through this single window,” he emphasized, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing Algeria’s business environment and accelerating economic diversification.
Substantial Gains in Import Reduction
President Tebboune reminded attendees of the state’s consistent efforts to prioritize domestic production, which have reduced Algeria’s import bill by an impressive 40%. He underscored the unified role of military, public, and private enterprises in contributing to this national achievement. “There should be no distinctions among these entities—they are all integral to Algeria’s industrial renaissance,” he stated firmly.
A Future of Industrial Self-Reliance and Global Integration
The 32nd Algerian Production Fair stands as a testament to Algeria’s transformative industrial policies and the strategic direction outlined by President Tebboune. By fostering synergies between diverse sectors and prioritizing local production, Algeria is not only fortifying its domestic market but also positioning itself as a competitive player in global industries.
As the President concluded his remarks, his vision of a self-reliant, diversified, and globally integrated Algerian economy resonated as both a challenge and an inspiration for the nation’s industrial stakeholders.
