Algiers, Algeria | December 31st, 2024 — On Monday, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications announced its 2025 postal stamp release program, featuring a rich array of themes that reflect Algeria’s history, culture, economy, religion, and traditions. The program will showcase a wide range of topics, including national history, social and cultural achievements, economic milestones, and environmental conservation, aimed at highlighting Algeria’s diverse and vibrant identity.

Commemorating National History and Memory

Among the key historical releases, the Ministry will issue stamps marking the 180th anniversary of the horrific Dahra Massacre (June 18, 1845) in Mostaganem, one of the most brutal acts of colonial violence in Algeria’s history. Additionally, a stamp will be dedicated to the centenary of the birth of renowned Algerian intellectual Frantz Fanon. The program will also focus on the political figures who played a pivotal role in organizing the Algerian Revolution and mobilizing the population.

Celebrating Algerian Culture and Heritage

In a strong emphasis on preserving Algeria’s cultural and architectural heritage, the postal program will include stamps celebrating the country’s ancient mosques and their distinctive architectural beauty. Further cultural recognition will be given to the fifth edition of the President of the Republic’s Award for Literature and the Amazigh Language, as well as the artistic contributions of Algerian theatre practitioners. Traditional women’s clothing, including the “Qandoura,” “Melhfa,” and “Caftan” from eastern Algeria, will also be honored through these commemorative stamps.

The program will also explore Algeria’s traditional cuisine, particularly focusing on the use of wild herbs such as “Regla,” “Qarnina,” and “Khabiza,” which are integral to local culinary practices.

Environmental Conservation and Biodiversity

Algeria’s rich biodiversity will take center stage with stamps dedicated to preserving the country’s unique animal and plant species. Notable releases will feature the endangered “Red Gazelle,” the “Peony Paeonia Algeriensis Schubert,” and the iconic “Sunflower.”

Economic Milestones and Local Products

The economic component of the program will celebrate Algeria’s achievements in agriculture and industry, including stamps for the “President of the Republic’s Award for Best Exporter.” Other notable releases will highlight indigenous products such as durum wheat varieties like “Massinissa” and soft wheat “Maouna,” along with regional specialties like Bouhza cheese and dried figs from Bani Maouch.

The infrastructure sector will also be commemorated through stamps recognizing Algeria’s key landmarks, including Houari Boumediene International Airport and the “Awana” fishing port in Jijel, as well as the revival of the railway line connecting Algeria and Tunisia.

Digital Transformation and Innovation

A significant portion of the program will spotlight Algeria’s ongoing digital transformation, including stamps celebrating the National Digital Transformation Strategy and the African Conference on Emerging Enterprises. Other releases will focus on innovations such as the virtual health insurance card for university students and the digital Algerian Qur’an library.

Empowering Women and Promoting Sports

In recognition of global and local issues, the program will release special stamps for International Women’s Day and a breast cancer awareness campaign under the “Pink October” slogan. Additionally, a stamp dedicated to school sports will aim to promote the discovery of young athletic talent across the country.

Raising Awareness about Internet Safety

A vital aspect of the 2025 program will be a stamp raising awareness about the dangers of internet misuse. This initiative seeks to educate the public on safe, responsible internet usage, in line with the government’s ongoing efforts to address digital security challenges.
