Algiers, Algeria | January 03rd, 2024 — Algeria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced the completion of the country’s first new grain storage center, marking a significant step forward in the government’s ambitious plan to enhance agricultural infrastructure. The facility, located in the Tiaret province, is the inaugural project of 350 grain storage centers set to be constructed nationwide as part of a large-scale initiative.
In an official statement, the Ministry confirmed the successful completion of the Tiaret storage center, which has a capacity to store 5,000 tons of grain. The facility has been equipped with all necessary infrastructure to handle the grain harvest for the 2024-2025 season. This marks a major milestone in the national program, which is aimed at improving food security and optimizing grain storage capacities across Algeria.
The Ministry’s program, which involves the construction of 350 regional centers across 52 provinces, is part of an ambitious plan to bolster the country’s storage capabilities. The total storage capacity of these centers is estimated at 1.75 million tons, which will play a crucial role in stabilizing the country’s grain supply and reducing storage-related challenges.
In addition to the Tiaret center, 10 more centers are expected to be completed in the province, further enhancing Algeria’s ability to manage its grain harvests efficiently. This program underscores the Algerian government’s commitment to strengthening its agricultural infrastructure and ensuring the sustainability of its food production systems.
