Chanegriha Underscores Algeria’s Strategic Military and Diplomatic Advancements

Algiers, Algeria | February 23rd, 2025 — In a significant leadership transition within the Algerian military, Major General Zoubir Ghouila was officially installed as the new Commander of the Algerian Air Force, succeeding Major General Mahmoud Laraba. The high-profile ceremony, held on Sunday, February 23, 2025, was presided over by General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army (ANP). A statement issued by the Ministry of National Defense (MDN) confirmed the installation, noting that the transition was conducted in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defense.

During his address, General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha underscored the broader strategic context in which the appointment was taking place. He praised the recent dynamism of Algeria’s diplomatic efforts, attributing their success to the insightful leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Chanegriha highlighted Algeria’s reinforced international and continental presence, particularly through its active role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and its strengthened representation in African Union mechanisms.

“In line with the President’s vision, our nation has amplified its diplomatic reach, ensuring a more robust global and regional standing,” declared Chanegriha. “Algeria’s foreign policy efforts are yielding tangible results, bolstering its influence and reaffirming its pivotal role in international affairs.”

The Chief of Staff further emphasized the growing momentum of Algeria’s military diplomacy, describing it as an essential pillar in safeguarding national security and fostering cooperative defense strategies. He elaborated on the high-level exchanges Algeria has conducted with foreign military delegations and the strategic visits undertaken to various nations, all aimed at fortifying bilateral and multilateral military collaborations.

“Our military diplomacy has gained significant traction, as evidenced by the numerous high-level delegations we have hosted and the strategic engagements we have pursued globally,” Chanegriha stated. “This proactive approach not only strengthens our defensive capabilities but also positions Algeria as a key player in addressing regional security challenges amid shifting geopolitical landscapes.”

The ceremony was followed by a meeting between Chanegriha and senior officials and personnel of the Air Force Command, during which he reiterated the vital role of the Air Force in Algeria’s national defense strategy. His address was broadcast via videoconference to all units under the Air Force Command, reinforcing the message of continuity, readiness, and strategic foresight.
