Ramadan: Goods, worth more than 51 million DA, seized

ALGIERS- During the first ten days of the month of Ramadan, agents for the control and repression of fraud under the Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion seized 395.49 tons of goods with an overall value greater than to 51 million DA, indicates, Monday, said a report of the ministry.

According to the assessment of economic control and fraud repression activities at the national market level for the period from March 23 to April 1, the agents of control and fraud repression carried out 53,586  interventions resulting in the recording of 8,659 offenses and the establishment of 7,995 reports. This report shows an overall amount for non-invoicing of 490.6 million DA.

As for the areas of intervention covered by this report, it is about quality control and the repression of fraud, the control of commercial practices and the fight against illicit speculation.

With regard to quality control and the repression of fraud, the agents carried out 23,269 interventions which resulted in the recording of 3,584 offenses and the establishment of 3,061 reports of legal proceedings in addition to the proposal for administrative closure of 115 businesses.

These interventions made it possible to seize non-compliant and unfit goods for consumption, the quantity of which is 395.49 tonnes.

As for goods that are not in conformity and unfit for consumption, they have been transferred to centers of general interest. For non-compliant meat, they were directed to the stray dog park and the zoo.

As for the nature of the offenses noted, they essentially consist of the lack of hygiene (46.9%), the possession and sale of products unfit for consumption (16.5%), as well as the absence of self-checking (10.4%).

In terms of control of commercial practices, 30,317 interventions were recorded, giving rise to the observation of 5,075 offenses and the establishment of 4,934 reports of legal proceedings.

These interventions also made it possible to reveal a total amount of non-invoicing estimated at 490.6 million DA and to seize goods worth 10.93 million DA.
