Court of Algiers: Cancellation of 3-year prison sentence pronounced against Melzi

ALGIERS- The criminal chamber at the Court of Algiers decided, on Sunday, to cancel the sentence of 3 years in prison pronounced against the former director of the State residence “Sahel”, Abdelhamid Melzi, sentenced, last December, by the criminal tribunal of first instance of Dar El-Beïda.

The same court pronounced the proceedings against Mr. Melzi null and void, prosecuted for importing goods with over-invoicing to transfer funds abroad in his capacity as representative and CEO of the EGT tourist management company -Sahel.

The criminal chamber at the Court of Algiers, on the other hand, condemned, in the same case, the Hotel Investment Company (SIH) to a fine worth 645 million DA.

As for the civil action, the same authority declared inadmissible the constitution of the Public Treasury as a civil party.
