ALGIERS- The Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Urban Planning has released a statement regarding the recent bad weather that has caused significant damage and loss of life in Algeria. Sadly, two children, a 7-year-old girl in the wilaya of Guelma and a 9-year-old boy in the wilaya of Tipasa, have lost their lives due to the severe weather conditions.

The Ministry has been closely monitoring the situation and reports that the young girl was reported missing in the commune of Bouhachana (W. Guelma) and her body was found 5 kilometers from her home after being carried away by the floods. The young boy, on the other hand, succumbed to his injuries caused by the collapse of a nearby stadium wall in the commune of Khemisti (W. Tipasa).

The bad weather has also caused significant damage to several houses, buildings, and public structures, particularly educational ones, due to infiltrations and the rise in the level of rainwater. However, road traffic has been restored in several wilayas after the completion of water pumping operations by the concerned services at the level of the submerged and principal roads.

The specialized authorities and services remain present and mobilized on the ground through the various wilayas concerned until a total return to normal. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the children who lost their lives.
