ALGIERS- The Ambassador of China to Algeria, His Excellency Li Chian, visited the residents of M’Hamdia, situated in Ouled Chebel, a village nestled between Chebli and Birtouta in the western outskirts of the capital. He attended a communal iftar as a distinguished guest during the occasion.
During this visit, Ambassador Li Chian, on behalf of China, presented the community with a generous donation of food items and other materials weighing 1.2 tons. This assistance specifically targeted the sports association of Ouled Chebel. Delivering a poignant speech at the cultural center of the small town, Ambassador Li Chian expressed his delight at visiting Ouled Chebel and witnessing firsthand the spirit of sharing and solidarity inherent in the Algerian people, qualities shared with the Chinese people. He emphasized, “Diplomacy is not built within the confines of a government meeting room but is woven within the people.”
Saida Benhabyles highlighted the historical fraternity between the Chinese and Algerian people, citing pivotal moments such as 1954 and the 1990s when both nations stood united against terrorism. She commended China’s principled stance on global issues, including its condemnation of massacres and genocide in Gaza, labeling it a “shame for humanity.”
Following the iftar, Ambassador Li Chian was treated to a demonstration of Chinese martial arts techniques, specifically Wing Tsun, originating from China and made famous by the legendary actor Bruce Lee. This discipline, with over a thousand practitioners nationwide, was introduced to Algeria only two decades ago. The event also welcomed Mustapha Larfaoui, a founding member of the Algerian Olympic Committee and former President of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) from 1988 to 2009.
