Algiers, Algeria | November 05th, 2024 —  In a recent interview with Algeria Now, Ibrahim bin Saif Al-Azri, Director General and Editor-in-Chief of Oman News Agency, described Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s visit to Oman as “historic” and profoundly timely, highlighting its significance against the backdrop of current international tensions and the pressing challenges facing the Arab world. Al-Azri emphasized that President Tebboune’s visit reflects the robust ties between Algeria and Oman, united by a shared vision for peace, stability, and mutual cooperation in a region marked by volatility and change.

Al-Azri articulated Oman’s and Algeria’s aligned positions on major regional issues, including the Palestinian plight and the ongoing violence in Lebanon, which call for solidarity and coordination among Arab leaders. He noted that the visit is an opportunity for the two nations to reinforce their joint stances on critical issues, with both countries advocating for a cessation of bloodshed and denouncing hostilities impacting the Palestinian and Lebanese people. “Oman and Algeria share a profound commitment to non-intervention and to policies that respect the sovereignty of nations,” Al-Azri remarked. “President Tebboune’s visit thus carries crucial significance for amplifying their voices on the international stage, advocating for peace and stability in the Arab region and globally.”

Discussing the bilateral relations between Algeria and Oman, Al-Azri pointed to the vast potential for economic and strategic partnerships that President Tebboune’s visit could catalyze. “This visit opens doors to genuine partnerships, primarily in trade and investment,” Al-Azri stated, underscoring Algeria’s extensive natural resources and vast landscapes that present promising avenues for Omani investments, particularly in tourism, energy, and minerals. He emphasized that while foundations for collaboration have long existed, this visit sets the groundwork for intensifying these ties and exploring investment opportunities in sectors such as oil, gas, and mining.

Al-Azri further outlined how Oman’s own resources and development initiatives make it an attractive platform for Algerian investors, especially in education, mining, and energy. Noting the presence of experienced Algerian professionals in Oman, he highlighted the mutual benefits of knowledge exchange and the potential for growth in joint projects. “Oman offers substantial avenues for Algerian expertise, and with the commitments made by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and President Tebboune, new agreements will be established to formalize collaborative frameworks that will support joint ventures in multiple fields,” Al-Azri affirmed. He conveyed optimism about the outcomes of the anticipated agreements, predicting that they will solidify cooperation and lay a sustainable foundation for future projects.

In closing, Al-Azri expressed admiration for the strong ties between the Omani and Algerian peoples, emphasizing the mutual respect and hospitality shared by both cultures. “The Algerian people are always welcome in Oman, known for their warmth and respect for other nations,” he noted. He conveyed Omani citizens’ eagerness to visit Algeria, whether for tourism, education, or professional exchanges, anticipating that this bilateral relationship could serve as a model for other Arab nations seeking stronger intergovernmental and cultural ties.

As President Tebboune’s visit sets a new course for Algerian-Omani relations, both nations look toward a promising future that balances tradition with innovation and mutual growth. Through this deepened collaboration, Algeria and Oman aspire to become regional examples of stability, resilience, and cooperation amid the pressing challenges of the contemporary world.
