ALGIERS- In tosay’s Cabinet meeting, the Algerian government approved the additional development program for the Tindouf province, which was initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The program encompasses 18 projects spanning seven sectors, including water resources, youth affairs, healthcare, urban planning, urban development, environment, and housing, with a budget exceeding 29 billion Algerian dinars. This supplementary program is designed to complement the existing initiatives in the region.

President Tebboune also directed the immediate commencement of a comprehensive study for the establishment of a free-trade zone, aimed at diversifying economic activities and fostering dynamism in the area, particularly along the Algeria-Mauritania border.

During a recent visit to the province, Interior Minister Brahim Merad emphasized that significant efforts are being made by the state to stimulate development in Tindouf. However, he acknowledged that these efforts fall short of the ambitions for this crucial province.

“The additional development program initiated by the President is a significant achievement that will address the concerns of citizens in areas such as healthcare, water supply, sanitation, and urban development,” affirmed Minister Merad.

According to the minister, “the strategic projects launched last week by the President will transform the face of the province and the entire region.” The government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and fostering economic growth in Tindouf reflects a broader initiative to uplift the living standards of the local population and promote sustainable development.
