Salma Malika Haddadi’s Election as AU Commission Vice President Underscores Algeria’s Growing Influence

Algiers, Algeria | February 23rd, 2025 — The President of the Pan-African Parliament, Chief Fortune Charumbira, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Algeria following the election of Salma Malika Haddadi as Vice President of the African Union (AU) Commission. He particularly lauded the election of Salma Malika Haddadi, recognizing it as a testament to Algeria’s unwavering commitment to African unity, institutional strengthening, and leadership within the AU framework.

Furthermore, Charumbira underscored Algeria’s instrumental role in mobilizing substantial material and financial support for the AU’s institutional mechanisms. The ongoing session of the Pan-African Parliament, held from February 18 to 28 in Midrand, South Africa, is convening under the 2025 AU theme: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.” This thematic focus underscores the African Union’s renewed commitment to historical justice, equality, and redress for past injustices suffered by African nations and their diaspora.
