ALGIERS- This Sunday and Monday, the foreign ministers of African nations will convene in Oran for the 10th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa. The aim of this edition is to elevate African diplomacy as a decisive and influential force, prioritizing the security and stability of the continent, as reported by APS, citing diplomatic sources.
As a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2024-2025 term, Algeria is participating in this event as the host country and the initiator of the Oran seminar. The gathering will include foreign ministers from African countries, both incoming and outgoing, members of the UN Security Council (A3), Guyana representing Latin America and the Caribbean in the A3+1 mechanism, members of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC), representatives from the AU and UN commissions, as well as founders, friends, and partners of the seminar, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
This conference carries dimensions aimed at consolidating the partnership and coordination between the AU Peace and Security Council and African countries on the international stage, particularly within the UN Security Council. This collaboration is crucial for defending common African interests during decision-making processes within the UN Security Council.
Since its inception, the Oran Conference has served as a platform for African diplomacy to present a clear, united vision in the interest of security and stability in Africa, within the decision-making process of the UN Security Council. During this meeting, Algeria will unveil its roadmap for its non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council, guided by the “pan-Africanist vision of the founding fathers of the continental organization.” The focus is on working together to ensure that Africa’s perspective is duly heard, with a commitment to providing African solutions to African problems.
As part of the summit, a “guidance manual” on coordination between the AU Peace and Security Council and the A3+1 will be examined, further emphasizing the importance of strategic collaboration in shaping the future of peace and security on the African continent.
