Agricultural Success in Mostaganem: Over 12,600 Tons of Red and White Meat Produced in the 2023-2024 Season

Algiers, Algeria | January 1st, 2024 — Mostaganem has emerged as a beacon of agricultural success during the 2023-2024 farming season, achieving a remarkable production of over 12,600 tons of red and white meat. According to the Directorate of Agricultural Services, this milestone reflects the robust efforts of farmers and authorities in bolstering the region’s livestock and poultry sectors.

The annual report from the Production and Technical Support Division detailed that white meat production accounted for 95,519 quintals, with chicken leading at 90,103 quintals, followed by turkey at 5,416 quintals. Meanwhile, red meat output reached an impressive 30,720 quintals, including 17,753 quintals of beef, 10,292 quintals of mutton, and 2,675 quintals of goat meat. Additionally, 22,656 livestock were inspected during the slaughtering process, ensuring compliance with health standards.

Impressive Gains in Poultry and Animal Products

Beyond meat production, Mostaganem recorded a significant uptick in other animal products. Egg production soared to 312 million units, a 14% increase from the previous season. The province also delivered 1,365 quintals of wool, 387 quintals of leather, and 900 quintals of honey, sourced from 20,000 beehives.

The province’s thriving livestock sector, boasting over 135,000 animals, includes 109,323 sheep, 11,000 cattle, and 14,784 goats. Poultry production remains a cornerstone, with approximately 6.1 million chickens, 48,000 turkeys, and 1.5 million egg-laying hens contributing to the robust output.
