Algiers- The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni, assumed a pivotal role in driving agricultural reform as he chaired a meeting with the heads of public groups and economic establishments under supervision on the subject of pilot farms. This development, disclosed through an official press release from the ministry, is a significant step toward revitalizing Algeria’s agricultural landscape.
The meeting, attended by central executives, falls within the purview of monitoring key issues concerning the agricultural sector. It comes as a direct response to the directives of President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, issued during the Council of Ministers’ gathering on October 15, 2023, where the pivotal subject of pilot farms took center stage.
During the meeting, a slew of transformative measures were discussed and subsequently put into action. Central among these was the reorganization of pilot farms and the reevaluation of their statutes, with the ultimate aim of reorienting them towards bolstering Algeria’s agricultural productivity. A notable aspect of this restructuring plan is the allocation of substantial areas for the cultivation of strategic crops, thus fortifying the nation’s food security.
Additionally, an exclusive program has been set in motion to focus on the production of legumes, a pivotal step towards diversifying the agricultural sector and promoting self-sufficiency in this key area. Furthermore, areas have been designated to support and nurture start-ups, fostering innovation and sustainability in Algerian agriculture.
Minister Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni’s leadership in this endeavor underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to revitalizing the agricultural landscape, ensuring the sector remains robust, dynamic, and adaptable to changing needs and challenges. The comprehensive approach to reforming pilot farms reflects a forward-thinking strategy aimed at securing Algeria’s food security, promoting self-sufficiency, and boosting economic growth.
