Algiers, Algeria | June 17th, 2024 — In preparation for the heightened water demand during Aïd El Adha, Algiers Water and Sanitation Company (SEAAL) has significantly enhanced its daily water production in Algiers. The company announced on Sunday that it has also secured adequate water reserves in the primary reservoirs in both Algiers and Tipasa ahead of the holiday. This effort is part of SEAAL’s comprehensive strategy to ensure continuous public water and sanitation services.

“SEAAL has increased daily production to 1,050,000 cubic meters in Algiers, with a pre-stocked reserve of 300,000 cubic meters in the main reservoirs on the eve of Aïd. In the wilaya of Tipasa, we achieved a total production of 210,000 cubic meters, alongside a reserve of 165,000 cubic meters,” the SEAAL communiqué stated. Water distribution began at 1:00 AM on the first day of Aïd, with peak distribution between 8:00 and 11:00 AM.

Operational teams have executed precise valve maneuvers to ensure adequate water stock and continuous distribution. These actions are part of a strategic plan to manage the peak consumption typically observed during Aïd El Adha, a time marked by the highest water usage rates. The goal is to maintain consistent water and sanitation services in Algiers and Tipasa during the religious festivities.

Despite challenges posed by increased water consumption from the early hours of Aïd and instances of sheep waste disposal into the sanitation networks, SEAAL has successfully maintained a steady water supply. The company has deployed specialized teams for monitoring and maintaining sanitation networks and lift stations, conducting multiple interventions to clean and clear main channels. These intensified maintenance efforts ensure that the lift stations operate at full capacity.

Thanks to these measures, SEAAL has effectively prevented major sewage overflows in the streets, despite some citizens discarding sheep waste into the sewers. The mobilized teams addressed urgent issues promptly, ensuring neighborhood cleanliness and environmental protection.
