ALGIERS– Air Algérie, the national airline, has announced an extension of the deadline for receiving offers for the acquisition of 10 aircraft through leasing. The new deadline is May 29, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. local time. The airline is seeking six large aircraft, including four A330-200/300 GE aircraft and two A330-900, as well as four medium-sized aircraft, including two B737-800 aircraft and two B737-9 Max.
The international consultation, numbered 01/AH-DG/2023, is open to interested tenderers. The notice of extension was published in the national press on Tuesday. The operational leasing (dry lease) of the fleet is the focus of the consultation.
Air Algérie had previously launched a market for the acquisition of 15 aircraft, with Boeing and Airbus being granted provisional allocations. Boeing was awarded the market for medium-sized carriers, while Airbus was awarded the market for large carriers.
Air Algérie has taken a significant step towards expanding its fleet by signing a contract with Boeing for the purchase of eight medium-sized aircraft. The first deliveries of these planes are expected to take place in 2027, marking a major milestone for the airline. Additionally, Air Algérie officials have indicated that a contract with Airbus for the acquisition of seven more planes will be signed in the near future.
This move comes as part of a larger plan to open new routes to African and Asian countries, which was authorized by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during a Council of Ministers meeting on May 8, 2022. The acquisition of these 15 new aircraft will undoubtedly bolster Air Algérie’s capabilities and enable it to better serve its customers.
As the airline industry continues to evolve and grow, Air Algérie is positioning itself for success by investing in modern, reliable aircraft. With these new planes, the airline will be able to expand its reach and provide even more options for travelers. We look forward to seeing the positive impact that these acquisitions will have on Air Algérie and the wider aviation industry.
