Air Algérie’s contract with Airbus, the most important in Maghreb, African continent

ALGIERS– Air Algérie has taken a significant step towards expanding its fleet with the acquisition of seven Airbus aircraft. The national airline signed a contract with the European aeronautical manufacturer, Airbus, in Algiers on Wednesday. The signing ceremony was attended by Air Algérie’s General Manager, Yassine Benslimane, and a representative of Airbus.
The national airline, Air Algérie, will now have access to the most modern aircraft in the world, including the 330 Neo and the 350-1000, which are the largest aircraft currently operating in Africa. This deal is one of the most important in the Maghreb and African region, and only two companies in Africa will operate with this type of aircraft – Air Algérie and Ethiopian Airlines.
Under the terms of the contract, Airbus will supply Air Algérie with five A 330-900 type aircraft (280-320 seat module) and two A 350-1000 type aircraft (350-450 seat module), with the first delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.
Hadi Akoum, the Vice President of Sales for Africa and Levant at Airbus, stated that these aircraft will allow Air Algérie to continue the development of air transport, as well as economic and tourist development.
This acquisition follows Air Algérie’s recent contract signing with American manufacturer Boeing for the purchase of eight medium-carrier aircraft. The acquisition of 15 new aircraft by Air Algérie is in line with the President of the Republic’s decision to authorize the airline to acquire 15 aircraft during the meeting of ministers held on May 8, 2022. The aim is to open new routes, particularly to countries in Africa and Asia.
In addition to this initial acquisition, Air Algérie has also initiated the purchase of 10 additional aircraft as part of the second phase of its fleet’ strengthening plan, which was also authorized by President Tebboune.
This significant investment in Air Algérie’s fleet is a testament to the airline’s commitment to providing its passengers with a world-class travel experience. With the addition of these new aircraft, Air Algérie is poised to expand its reach and enhance its reputation as a leading airline in the region.
