Al Arab Newspaper: A Biased, Offensive Media Outlet Funded by UAE, Undermining Algeria’s Role in Arab Causes

حجم الخط : +-

ALGIERS- The London-based newspaper “Al Arab,” funded by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has shamelessly launched an offensive and indecent attack on Algeria, a nation steadfast in supporting Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian issue. The newspaper, accused of serving the agenda of Abu Dhabi, blatantly disregards Algeria’s principled stance and accuses it of mere posturing before the UN Security Council, asserting that such a stance “will not last long.”

According to the “Washington Institute for Research and Studies,” Algeria plays a significant role in the Palestinian, Ukrainian, and Western Sahara issues, with the possibility of shifting power dynamics within the Security Council.

The UAE-funded newspaper, in its latest report, continues its relentless incitement against Algeria, serving Abu Dhabi’s agenda. It falsely claims that Algeria’s stance on Gaza and regional issues is merely a “show before the Security Council that won’t endure.”

In this context, the newspaper alleges that Algeria’s position will yield to pressures from France and the United States, venomously stating: “Total alignment with the Russian camp is not available and is not honorable for this state, especially after the disappointment of joining the BRICS group.”

According to this UAE-funded outlet, Algeria, based on its claims, must not deviate from Western powers and may need to make “some concessions” if required. The newspaper, representing an Emirati editorial line, fails to distinguish between journalistic integrity and aligning with enemies, regardless of the cost.

The newspaper goes on to predict that Algeria’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause will crumble under Western influence, failing to acknowledge Algeria’s principled stance on the Yemen crisis. Algeria, having rejected military strikes by the U.S. and the UK against Houthi strongholds in Yemen, stands as a visible challenge to Western powers and refrained from voting on the relevant Security Council resolution.

Algeria emphasizes that the dangerous escalation in the region will undermine the efforts made by the United Nations and regional countries to find a solution to the Yemen conflict. It calls for an end to military interventions due to their catastrophic impact on global peace, with civilians paying the price.

Algeria’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, expressed regret for not taking into account two important elements in the resolution project, urging the Security Council not to ignore the sentiments stirred in the Arab and Islamic worlds due to indiscriminate bombings targeting innocent civilians.

Previously, the International Security Council approved Algeria’s proposal rejecting the forced displacement of Palestinians, considered an achievement for the Arab nation in support of the Palestinian cause.

As Algeria begins its non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council in early 2024, securing a victory for the Arab world through its steadfast positions seems to be a cause for concern for “Al Arab” newspaper and its UAE backers.
