Algiers, Algeria | July 7th, 2024 — The National Independent Election Authority (ANIE) has provided an update on the ongoing preparations for the upcoming presidential election slated for September 7. As of Sunday, ANIE reported that 34 aspirants have withdrawn their individual signature subscription forms, signaling active engagement among potential candidates in the candidacy process.

To facilitate the submission of candidacy forms, ANIE has established 4,903 legalization points across Algeria, in addition to the headquarters at the Palace of Nations in Algiers. Candidates are required to submit completed forms at these points, with the review of candidacy dossiers ongoing until July 27. Following this, ANIE will announce the final list of candidates, and the dossiers will proceed to the Constitutional Court for validation.

ANIE has taken steps to streamline the legalization process, ensuring that legalization cells operate daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, including Fridays and public holidays. Notably, ANIE clarified that the national identification number (NIN) is not mandatory for filling out subscription forms; traditional identity cards suffice for legalization.

Additionally, ANIE has introduced measures to support the signature collection process. Individuals lacking a voter card can obtain a registration certificate from electoral list centers at legalization cells, facilitating their participation in endorsing presidential candidates.

These efforts by ANIE aim to ensure a smooth and inclusive presidential election process, enabling broad participation and adherence to electoral regulations throughout Algeria.
