Algeria: Army’s Chief of Staff Installs New Director General of Documentation, External Security

Algiers, Algeria | September 25th, 2024 — In a pivotal leadership change within Algeria’s intelligence sector, General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), officially installed General Rochdi Fethi Moussaoui as the Director General of Documentation and External Security (DGDS) on Wednesday. This appointment, made on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, follows a presidential decree dated September 19, 2024, and represents a critical shift in the leadership of Algeria’s intelligence apparatus.

“On behalf of the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defense, and in accordance with the presidential decree of September 19, 2024, I hereby officially install General Rochdi Fethi Moussaoui as Director General of Documentation and External Security,” announced General Chanegriha. He also called upon DGDS personnel to support their new leader and adhere to his directives, emphasizing the importance of strict compliance with military regulations and a steadfast commitment to the values and sacrifices of Algeria’s Glorious Revolution and its martyrs, the Chouhada.
General Chanegriha provided further directives to the DGDS staff, encouraging them to intensify their efforts to protect national interests. The event concluded with General Chanegriha overseeing the formal approval of the handover report, as confirmed in the Ministry of National Defense’s statement.
