Algiers, Algeria | September 25th, 2024 — In a pivotal leadership change within Algeria’s intelligence sector, General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), officially installed General Rochdi Fethi Moussaoui as the Director General of Documentation and External Security (DGDS) on Wednesday. This appointment, made on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, follows a presidential decree dated September 19, 2024, and represents a critical shift in the leadership of Algeria’s intelligence apparatus.

The formal ceremony, attended by high-ranking military officials, marked the transition of authority from outgoing Director Major-General Mehena Djebbar to General Moussaoui, as outlined in a communiqué issued by the Ministry of National Defense. In his address, General Chanegriha underscored the significance of maintaining vigilance and continuity in the defense of Algeria’s sovereignty, particularly amid the increasingly complex and volatile global landscape.

“On behalf of the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defense, and in accordance with the presidential decree of September 19, 2024, I hereby officially install General Rochdi Fethi Moussaoui as Director General of Documentation and External Security,” announced General Chanegriha. He also called upon DGDS personnel to support their new leader and adhere to his directives, emphasizing the importance of strict compliance with military regulations and a steadfast commitment to the values and sacrifices of Algeria’s Glorious Revolution and its martyrs, the Chouhada.

General Chanegriha provided further directives to the DGDS staff, encouraging them to intensify their efforts to protect national interests. He highlighted the necessity of unity, discipline, and dedication under General Moussaoui’s leadership to ensure the continued success of the agency’s mission.

The ceremony also served as an opportunity to honor the remarkable contributions of Major-General Mehena Djebbar during his tenure. General Chanegriha expressed deep admiration for Djebbar’s legacy, describing him as a foundational figure in Algeria’s military establishment, renowned for his professional excellence and pivotal role in overseeing intelligence and security operations. “Major-General Mehena Djebbar has been an unwavering servant of the Nation, exhibiting unparalleled professionalism and mastery in managing Algeria’s most critical security challenges,” Chanegriha remarked, paying tribute to Djebbar’s distinguished service.

The event concluded with General Chanegriha overseeing the formal approval of the handover report, as confirmed in the Ministry of National Defense’s statement. This transition marks the beginning of a new chapter for Algeria’s intelligence operations, with General Moussaoui set to steer the DGDS amid an evolving geopolitical environment, reinforcing the nation’s external security and strategic interests.
