ALGIERS- In a significant move to strengthen the pharmaceutical industry in Algeria, Minister Ali Aoun met with Ms. Katrine From Hoyer, the Ambassador of Denmark to Algeria, and a delegation from Leo Pharma laboratories, a prominent Danish pharmaceutical company specializing in dermatology, coagulation, and thrombosis treatments. The meeting at the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production headquarters emphasized the growing interest in the Algerian pharmaceutical sector, with international groups and foreign diplomats expressing their intent to collaborate.
The discussions between Minister Ali Aoun and the Danish delegation were characterized by a shared commitment to enhancing the existing bonds between Algeria and Denmark, which are anticipated to expand into various domains. A key focus of the talks revolved around Danish investments in Algeria, particularly within the pharmaceutical industry. Notably, Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk has maintained a presence in Algeria since 1958, demonstrating Denmark’s substantial experience in the Algerian pharmaceutical market.
Minister Aoun seized the opportunity to emphasize the need to elevate the collaboration to the next level, specifically by transitioning towards local pharmaceutical production. He stressed the importance of making high-quality investments that align with the national market’s demands and the country’s long-term goals of pharmaceutical exports.
Regarding Leo Pharma Company’s operations, Minister Aoun urged the company to shift its focus towards local production as part of a broader strategy to diversify partnerships with domestic pharmaceutical industry leaders, most notably Saidal.
Minister Aoun also took the occasion to encourage Leo Pharma laboratories and other potential Danish investors to increase their investments in Algeria. The government has facilitated this by offering a range of incentives under the new investment code, aiming to meet the national market’s requirements and boost the pharmaceutical sector’s overall growth.
The meeting between Minister Aoun, the Danish Ambassador, and the Leo Pharma delegation signifies the beginning of a new chapter in the pharmaceutical industry in Algeria. With a commitment to quality, local production, and international cooperation, Algeria is poised to further develop its pharmaceutical sector, meeting the health needs of its population while potentially becoming a significant player in the global pharmaceutical market.
