Algeria and the Czech Republic Strengthen Strategic Cooperation in Energy, Mining, and Renewable Energies

Algiers, Algeria | February 3rd, 2025 — Algeria reaffirmed its commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with the Czech Republic in the fields of energy, mining, and renewable energies as Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, held a high-level meeting on Monday, February 3, 2025, with a delegation of Czech business leaders led by Czech Minister of Environment, Petr Hladík. The discussions, which took place at the ministry’s headquarters, coincided with the Algeria-Czech Republic Business Forum held in Algiers, underscoring the growing economic synergy between the two nations.

The meeting was attended by State Secretary for Renewable Energies at the Ministry of Energy, Nourredine Yassa, alongside the Czech Ambassador to Algeria and senior officials from both sides. Discussions revolved around bolstering bilateral cooperation and exploring avenues for investment and technological collaboration in key energy sectors, in line with the Joint Declaration of Intent signed between the two countries on November 21, 2022.

A focal point of the meeting was the development of Algeria’s energy transition, with both parties emphasizing investment and cooperation in hydrocarbons, electricity, and renewable energies. Special attention was given to expanding solar photovoltaic projects, hydrogen production, and wind energy, as well as increasing energy efficiency through cutting-edge technological solutions. The integration of advanced technologies and the enhancement of domestic manufacturing capabilities for energy-related equipment were also key discussion points.

Both ministers examined potential collaboration in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, reflecting Algeria’s interest in diversifying its energy mix while adhering to international safety and environmental standards.

The discussions extended into the mining sector, where Algeria highlighted investment opportunities across geological studies, mapping, exploration, and mineral resource development. Particular emphasis was placed on critical and strategic minerals, which are essential for the global transition to clean energy and high-tech industries.

The Algerian side reaffirmed its commitment to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships between Algerian and Czech enterprises, prioritizing knowledge transfer, technological expertise, and specialized training programs.

Shared Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

Recognizing the growing importance of sustainable development, both countries stressed the necessity of integrating clean and sustainable energy solutions within the mining and energy sectors. The meeting underscored joint efforts to mitigate the carbon footprint associated with these industries by leveraging green technologies and innovative environmental management practices.

Minister Arkab underscored that Minister Hladík’s visit reflects the shared determination of Algeria and the Czech Republic to strengthen their long-standing ties and expand economic cooperation. He emphasized the importance of setting clear investment priorities in energy and mining projects, both within Algeria and internationally, to foster sustainable, mutually beneficial partnerships.

For his part, Minister Hladík expressed satisfaction with the depth of Algerian-Czech relations and reaffirmed his country’s strong commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation. He stressed the need to intensify economic and commercial consultations, facilitate experience-sharing, and work towards elevating the partnership to new heights.
