ALGIERS- In a significant move towards regional development, Interior Minister Brahim Merad commenced a working and inspection visit to the Tindouf province on Saturday. This visit is part of the preparations for the supplementary development program allocated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the region, as outlined in a statement from the Ministry.

Minister Merad, presiding over a meeting with local authorities and elected officials in the southwestern province, announced a substantial financial allocation of 38 billion dinars aimed at supporting local development initiatives.

The supplementary program, a presidential initiative to address the concerns of the citizens in Tindouf, is deemed a significant achievement that will contribute to meeting the needs of the population. Minister Merad affirmed the considerable efforts made by the state to boost development in Tindouf, acknowledging that they fall short of the ambitious goals set by the government for the province.

The minister highlighted the strategic projects initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune the previous week, emphasizing that they would transform the landscape of Tindouf and the entire region. These projects include key economic endeavors such as the exploitation of the Gara Djebilet mine, a 950 km railway line, the opening of the Algerian-Mauritanian border crossing, and the establishment of a free trade zone.

Minister Merad underscored the complementary nature of these projects, anticipating a substantial economic boost and the creation of thousands of job opportunities. These initiatives align with the government’s new focus on supporting non-hydrocarbon exports and strengthening the African dimension of Algeria’s economic activities.

The development plan for the province will follow a participative approach, involving local officials, representatives of the people, and various components of civil society. This inclusive strategy aims to define the key areas of the supplementary program, addressing the priorities of the local population and ensuring their active participation in the decision-making process.
