Algiers- Algeria, May 11, 2024 – Algeria has warmly welcomed the adoption of a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly, with an overwhelming majority of its members, supporting the right of the State of Palestine to become a full member of the United Nations.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that “the adoption of this resolution confirms the international community’s agreement on three very clear, precise, and important political messages regarding the Israeli settlements in this critical situation facing the Palestinian issue.”
The first message emphasized by the ministry is that “the creation of the Palestinian state is a central imperative that does not accept manipulation, procrastination, or skepticism.”
The second message stressed that “the creation of the Palestinian state must be the starting point and objective of any serious political process aiming at a just, durable, and definitive resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,” while the third underscores that “the international community does not recognize that the Israeli settlements have any veto right over the creation of the Palestinian state because the latter is the product of international consensus, and the occupier cannot underestimate or resist it.”
Algeria expressed delight in continuing its efforts at the Security Council, fully coordinating with its Palestinian and Arab counterparts, as well as with its affiliated bodies, in support of the Palestinian issue. Algeria aims to perpetuate this international consensus on the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state as the only and unique means to resolve the Palestinian issue and restore peace, security, and stability in the Middle East region.
Algeria’s commitment to the Palestinian cause remains steadfast, advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people on the international stage. The country’s unwavering support for Palestine reflects its principles of justice, solidarity, and respect for sovereignty.
