Algeria Authorizes Visa-Free Entry for Nationals Holding Foreign Passports

Algiers, Algeria | January 12th, 2025 — Algerian nationals residing abroad and holding valid foreign passports have been granted exceptional authorization to enter and exit Algerian territory without a visa, effective immediately and valid until December 31, 2025, in accordance with directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs announced this decision in an official statement on Saturday, emphasizing the President’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the Algerian diaspora and simplifying their return to the homeland.

“In implementation of the high instructions of His Excellency the President of the Republic, who is keen on fully addressing the concerns of our national community abroad and facilitating their entry into the national territory, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs our citizens residing abroad and holding valid foreign passports that they are authorized, exceptionally and until December 31, 2025, to enter and exit Algerian territory without the prior requirement of a visa,” the statement read.

This exceptional measure is subject to the presentation of specific documents at both entry and exit points. The Ministry specified that the authorization applies under two conditions:

1. A valid foreign passport accompanied by an expired biometric national identity card.
2. A valid foreign passport accompanied by an expired biometric Algerian passport.

This facilitation reflects Algeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with its diaspora and simplify administrative procedures for citizens abroad. The Ministry underlined that the specified documents must be presented both upon entry and departure from Algerian territory for the exemption to apply.

This initiative underscores Algeria’s commitment to preserving the connection between its citizens and their homeland while ensuring that the procedural framework remains efficient and secure.
