Algeria, Bahrain Strengthen Bilateral Ties in Light of Upcoming Arab Summit

Algiers- Algeria, May 6, 2024 –  Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, engaged in discussions with his Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, on Sunday in Algiers, during an official visit by the Bahraini Foreign Minister to Algeria.

In his welcoming remarks, Minister Attaf underscored the significance of the visit, particularly within the context of the “Year of Consultation and Coordination.” He emphasized the importance of valorizing and implementing bilateral initiatives, especially given the upcoming significant events expected by both countries.

Minister Attaf highlighted the Arab Summit scheduled in Manama as a crucial regional event, stressing the need for continuous communication and coordination to ensure its success. He emphasized the necessity of collective efforts to address urgent challenges, especially in light of the sensitive and complex circumstances facing the Arab world and the critical situation regarding the Palestinian cause.

“In Algeria, we firmly believe that the Palestinian cause is currently facing its most difficult and critical phase in history,” Attaf remarked, citing the ongoing Zionist aggression against Palestinians in Gaza and other occupied territories. He added that this aggression aims to dismantle the Palestinian cause and its national project.

Minister Attaf expressed hopes that the Manama Summit would strengthen Arab unity and consolidate its ranks to address existential risks faced by countries and peoples. He stressed the fundamental role of the Arab world in defending the Palestinian cause, which is central not only to Arabs but also to humanity as a whole.

“We hope that the Arab Summit hosted by our sisterly country will yield tangible achievements in the realm of joint Arab action, meeting the hopes and aspirations of our peoples and countries across various domains,” Attaf emphasized.

Concluding his remarks, Minister Attaf expressed a desire to discuss bilateral relations and explore avenues to strengthen and broaden them for the mutual benefit of both countries and peoples.

In response, Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani expressed gratitude for the warm welcome in Algeria and congratulated the country on the inauguration of the Great Mosque of Algiers. He praised Algeria’s progress, development, and its emphasis on religious matters, as well as the promotion of peace, tolerance, and coexistence.

During the meeting, the Bahraini Minister conveyed greetings from His Majesty the King and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, President of the Council of Ministers, to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Algerian people.

“We look forward to discussing the agenda of the Summit today, which you have kindly highlighted as important and which occurs under exceptional circumstances. We also anticipate the visit of His Excellency the President to participate alongside his Arab counterparts in this significant Summit,” Al-Zayani stated.
